New Toyota Camry previewed in Bengaluru; Spec sheet revealed

After publishing numerous spyshots of the Toyota Camry (codenamed XV50) testing in India, we can now present you some official details of Toyota's next launch. Indian Autos Blog was invited to take part in the media drive of the all-new Toyota Camry in Bengaluru today from where we are bringing you the story.

The Toyota Camry debuted in 1982. Camry in Japanese means "Crown." The Camry lived up to its name and was crowned as the best selling passenger car in North America, one of the world's toughest auto markets. It is the second best selling car after the Corolla for Toyota in the US.

The Camry became the mainstay for Toyota in the US market for its sales and profit. The product has seen 6 generation changes and more than 14 million cars ply roads in 110 countries.

In India, Toyota sold 1,31,000 cars last year, its best ever performance in its history. India is the 10th market where Camry is manufactured. It will be assembled at Toyota Kirloskar Motor's Bidadi plant, in the same line where the Fortuner is assembled.

The main objective of the all-new Camry is to create a "new wave of attraction to both existing and new customers." Engineers worked on improving quietness, fuel economy and space among other departments in the latest gen Camry.

The Camry uses a 2.5 L VVTI petrol engine that produces 178hp @ 6,000rpm and 233Nm @ 4,100rpm coupled to a 6-speed Automatic gearbox(Sequential shift) with improved power and fuel economy compared to the outgoing 2.4L engine. Manual gearboxes are not offered in any market where new Camry is sold.

The Camry uses MacPherson strut with stabilizer bar at the front and Dual link with stabilizer bar at the rear.

Camry is offered in 4 colours for India, White pearl crystal shine, Silver metallic, Beige metallic, Attitude black.

So What's the new Camry is about?

  • Ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear.
  • Automatic HID headlamps with auto-leveling and washer.
  • 16-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels.
  • Optitron Combimeter.
  • 2 DIN touch screen Display with DVD, AM/FM,CD, MP3, USB/Aux-in/bluetooth complete with car information system.
