Hailed as 'The Porsche 911 of SUVs' by its designer Gerry McGovern, the new Sport is anticipated in the Indian market by the end of 2013 or in early 2014. Deliveries are scheduled to begin overseas in September.
The new Sport is the "fastest, most agile and most responsive" Range Rover ever made. The design inspiration comes from its elder sister, the Evoque, which reversed fortunes for the British luxury utility vehicles maker, turning the company into a cash cow for Tata Motors.
In relative terms to the outgoing Sport, the 2014 Range Rover Sport is 62mm longer, 149mm shorter with a wheelbase increased by 178mm. The seating configuration is 5+2 which is another first for the Sport variant. It is about 500 kg lighter than the old car and is more aerodynamic, with the drag coefficient placed at 0.34. The cabin benefits from the added length, improving knee room by 24mm.
The two engines offered during launch are the 3.0-liter SDV6 diesel that makes 288 bhp and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 petrol engine that delivers 503 bhp. Power is laid on to the tarmac using a 8-speed gearbox and a 4WD system.
Coming to the prices, the SDV6 variant will set you back between 59,995 GBP (50.32 lakh rupes) and 74,995 GBP (62.9 lakh rupees). The high-end 5.0-liter V8 Supercharged Autobiography variant will take away 81,550 GBP (68.4 lakh rupees) from your account.
