Renault is all set to launch an all-new product since the introduction of the Kwid in September 2015. The model in question is the Captur crossover and it will be launched in India in the third quarter of 2017. Renault will position the Captur just above the Duster making it the French car maker’s flagship offering in the country. Renault Captur price in India could start at Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Here's all you need to know about the upcoming Renault Captur India launch date, price, specifications and more.
The India-bound Captur is already on sale in Brazil, Colombia and Russia (know as Renault Kaptur). The Captur sold in Europe differs from the one that is coming to India. While the Euro-spec version of the crossover is based on Renault-Nissan Alliance’s B Platform, the one sold in Brazil and coming to India shares the B0 platform with the Duster. That decision is driven by the fact that advanced engineering and expensive material mix used in case of the B Platform will push costs up, rendering the car overpriced. The low-cost B0 platform would be ideal given that its already localized and worked in Indian conditions.
Compared to the European version, the India-bound Captur is 211 mm longer, 35 mm wider and 47 mm taller. Also, its wheelbase is longer by 72 mm. Renault will manufacture the upcoming SUV at the facility in Orgadam, Tamil Nadu with over 80% localization of components.

Competition Check
Based on the expected pricing, the Renault Captur rivals could include –
It is expected that the Captur will get the same diesel engine as the Duster. However, keeping the premium nature of the upcoming SUV in mind, Renault might ditch the Duster 6-speed Easy-R AMT in favour of a 6-speed Dual Clutch automatic transmission. We will also have to wait and see whether Renault offers the Captur petrol with a 1.6 L unit or the 1.5 L H4K unit that powers the Duster, as the former favours performance over fuel efficiency and augers well with the Captur's higher positioning.

Engine | 1.6 L K4M Petrol |
Power | 105 PS |
Torque | 142 Nm |
Transmission | 5-speed Manual |
Estimated Mileage | 14-15 KMPL |
The Captur will come with the same 1.5 l K9K Diesel engine as the Duster. However, while Renault replaced the Duster's 1.6 Petrol unit with a 1.5 L petrol, the Captur could come with the 1.6 L petrol. Top end diesel variants (like the Renault Captur RxZ) could come with optional all-wheel drive.

Engine | 1.5 L K9K Diesel |
Power | 110 PS |
Torque | 250 Nm |
Transmission | 6-speed Manual/6-speed Automatic |

The Renault Kaptur is around 5 kg heavier than the Duster. And since the engine options are the same as the Duster’s, the fuel efficiency figures would be similar.
The design of the Kaptur/Captur is based on Renault’s six-petal flower strategy which symbolizes the human life cycle. The front end features some signature Renault styling touches with a bold logo set against a gloss black background. Perhaps the most attention-grabbing feature is the C-shape LED DRLs mounted on the bumper. The upper portion of the grille features a honeycomb mesh, while the lower visually widens the car. At the back, the Renault Captur features C-shaped 3D- effect LED lighting.
The Captur features a stylish, comfortably-appointed cabin. Spy pictures of the India-spec model reveal a dual tone black-beige colour scheme along with body colour highlights indicating that Renault could offer the Captur with Kwid like customization options. The centrally mounted MediaNAV touchscreen and auto aircon controls come from the Duster. The instrument console is not visible yet, but it will get a hooded setup with a digital speedo. As mentioned earlier, the Captur will be a strict 5 seater. It comes with 387 L of boot space that increases to 1200 L with the rear seats folded down. A wide 1002 mm of tailgate aperture will facilitate loading of wide bags or articles.
