Renault Duster's in-house rival expected to launch in the Russian market in December.
A camouflaged production Lada Xray has been spotted testing in Russia, way ahead of an expected launch in December 2015. The testing of the Xray mules confirm that AvtoVAZ will launch the production spec model in the Russian market, after showcasing not one, but two concepts of the Xray crossover, which were revealed at the 2012 and 2014 Moscow Motor Shows, respectively.
The last concept, the Lada Xray Concept 2, was based on the Renault Sandero platform and featured the company's new design face. The production model is expected to follow suit, featuring a 1.6 liter Renault-sourced engine producing 114 hp paired to a French manual gearbox.
Also in the cards is a 1.8-liter engine developed by AvtoVAZ, which outputs about 123 hp and coupled to an automatic transmission.
In terms of exterior design, the Lada Xray could mirror the design of the concept models, save for production spec changes. It shares the same design philosophy that also influences the Lada Vesta concept sedan.
