First model to roll out of Ford India's new Sanand plant.
Speaking to Indian Autos Blog at the media drive of the Ford Figo Aspire, Mr. Nigel Harris, president and managing director of Ford India, said that bookings for the compact sedan will open this month at dealerships. The launch will take place in the "following month", Mr. Harris said.
The Figo Aspire marks Ford India's entry in the sub-4 meter sedan segment, which is currently composed of the Maruti Dzire (best seller), Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and the Tata Zest. The Figo Aspire will come with three engine options, a first for its segment.
Starting the range is a 1.2-liter Ti-VCT four-cylinder petrol engine capable of 88 PS and 112 Nm of torque, matched to a 5-speed manual transmission. For buyers on the lookout for an automatic transmission, Ford will offer its 6-speed Powershift dual-clutch gearbox on the Aspire with a 1.5-liter Ti-VCT petrol, developing 112 PS and 136 Nm of torque. The petrol MT claims 18.16 km/l while the AT is rated at 17 km/l.
The Aspire diesel is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder TDCi unit, capable of outputs 100 PS and 215 Nm of torque. Paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the Aspire diesel has an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 25.83 km/l.
