Ford Bronco is one of the most important and iconic models in the history of the American car brand. Ford Bronco was first introduced as the first SUV to be developed by the company itself. From 1966 to 1996, this legendary SUV had gone through five generations before being discontinued. More than two decades later, Ford has revived its iconic SUV in the excitement of the fans. The six-gen Ford Bronco goes on sale under two forms, two-door and four-door convertible SUV. Ford has bridged the interrupted history of the Bronco by setting the manufacturing of the new Bronco at the Michigan facility where the past five generations of the car were made.
The new Ford Bronco was revealed a while ago, and the company has received a massive number of bookings since. The return of the iconic SUV met with overwhelming responses from the market. It is announced that the demand for the new Bronco is so high that the delivery might be extended to 2022. It is expected that the early delivery of the Ford Bronco will start in May 2021.
After a long hiatus, Ford Bronco is back with the retro-inspired design. However, this time, the retro-looking model is double with the latest and innovative features. Just like the old days, the Ford Bronco continues to be an excellent offroader. This focus is manifested through the offroad-oriented characteristics like water-proof material inside the cabin, removable hardtop and door. It should be noted that both the two-door and the four-door versions are convertibles.
To support the off-road performance, the new Ford Bronco comes with features like 35-inch mud-terrain tires, electronic locking front and rear differentials, beadlock-capable rims, long-travel dampers, and a sway bar disconnect. Moreover, Ford also claimed that the Bronco features the best-in-class departure and breakover, ground clearance and water wading capability. The offroad capability is leveraged with Terrain Management System with five different drive modes, Trail control system, Trail Turn Assist, and Trail 1-Pedal Drive, and Ford Pass Performance App.
Stepping up from the old model, the new Bronco is loaded to the brims with a host of features and technologies. Ford provides the latest Sync 4 system to power the main touchscreen which could be either an 8-inch or a 12-inch unit. The infotainment system is compatible with the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Under the hood, Ford Bronco upsets some fans for not including the V8 engine. However, the Bronco still offers the manual powertrain as an option. It is available with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit that makes 270 PS of power. The other option is a bigger and more powerful 2.7-litre twin-turbo engine with 310 PS. It is revealed by Ford that the Bronco hybrid will go on sale in the future. Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The manual gearbox mentioned above is exclusively available on the smaller unit.
It is not known if Ford would bring the Ford Bronco to the Indian market or not. However, it is official that Ford is developing two new SUVs for the Indian market in collaboration with Mahindra. These upcoming SUVs include a Mahindra XUV500-based model and a mid-size SUV. The latter will rival the like of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
If Ford decides to roll out the Bronco in India, it will be positioned on the higher end of the product line-up. Bronco’s rival, Jeep Wrangler, is already available in India. It would be interesting to see how these two American-made offroaders compete against each other in the Indian market.
Ford Bronco is available in four variants, Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, First Edition. The base model is now available at $28,500. The top First Edition’s price goes up to $57,410. Ford Bronco price in India is not available yet since the car has yet launched in our market.
