The VW Tarok Concept is said to be merely tweaks away from achieving production readiness.

Speaking on the VW Tarok Concept, Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Global Design, has said:

With its striking Targa-inspired roof bar, charismatic front end, three-dimensional LED lighting strip in the rear, and powerful yet stylish side panels, the Tarok Concept’s expressive design makes it the first pick-up to combine the stylistic elements of an urban SUV with an authentic off-road design.

The highlight of the highly adaptable pickup - its extendable cargo area. In the default configuration, the loading bay is 47.48 inches (1,206 mm) long but can be expanded to 73.27 inches (1,861 mm) by folding down the rear seats and opening the hatch. As per the company, the production version will have a payload capacity of approximately 1,000 kilograms (2,205 pounds).

The VW Tarok Concept sports a distinct lighting setup up front, with illumination across the grille slats and around the air intakes in the front bumper. Another highlight is a metallic finish on the C-pillar. Other than this, the pickup concept features a panoramic sunroof, dual-tone machined alloy wheels, faux skid plate in a brushed aluminium finish, and black plastic cladding. The interior flaunts a colour-coordinated crossbar in Cypress Metallic that runs across the dashboard. It surrounds a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital air conditioning controls and an all-digital instrument binnacle.

While the Amarok utilises a ladder-frame chassis, the VW Tarok comes underpinned by the monocoque MQB platform. Powering the concept is a 1.4-litre 150 PS four-cylinder TSI engine compatible with pure ethanol (E100) as well as a gasoline-ethanol blend (E22). The motor comes mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox that drives all four wheels through the 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive system.
