Autocar India reports that the Tata H7X SUV, which is, basically, the 7-seater version of the Harrier (codename - H5X), will make its public debut at the Auto Expo 2020. While the Harrier will rival the higher variants of the Hyundai Creta and the lower trims of the Jeep Compass, the H7X should go up against the Mahindra XUV500 and the pricier versions of the Compass.

Maintaining the same wheelbase, the exterior of the Tata H7X should see changes to the rear overhang and perhaps unique front and rear fascias. In fact, the 7-seater model will become the third production model to be designed as per the IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. Previewed by the H5X concept at Auto Expo 2018, the new design direction brings in a multi-tier light setup, Tri-Arrow pattern, a rising beltline, taut surfaces, and JLR-like sleek LED taillamps.
As is the case with the Harrier, the Tata H7X will be based on the Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA ARC) platform. Moreover, the two models will feature the FCA-sourced 2.0 Multijet II oil-burner that has been rebranded 'Kryotec' by Tata Motors. While the Harrier gets a 140 hp version of the turbo-diesel engine, its 7-seven seater sibling will feature a more powerful variant with a maximum power of more than 170 hp. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic unit.
The company is unlike to sell a 4WD variant of the H7X. This is owing to the meagre demand for the four-wheel drive configuration due to a higher cost and a low utility. Instead, both Harrier and the 7-seater sibling will be available with Super Drive Modes that enable the vehicle user to toggle between four drive modes - Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road.

The Tata H7X will not receive the Harrier nameplate to have a clear differentiation from the 5-seater sibling. Meanwhile, production of the latter is already underway on a new assembly line at the company's Pune plant. Interested customers can pre-book the Harrier online or at a dealership, for a token amount of INR 30,000.
