Tata Motors today announced the commencement of the production of the Harrier, its new flagship car. The Tata Harrier will be produced on an all-new manufacturing line at the company's Pune facility. The new model will launch in January 2019 and is expected to be priced from INR 16-21 lakh OTR.
The assembly line for the Tata Harrier was set up in a record time of 6 months. The company claims to have adopted the best manufacturing practices for its new flagship from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The new production line boasts 90% automation levels with more than 100 KUKA and ABB robots.
Among the major highlights of the Tata Harrier is its 'Omega ARC' platform, which is, in essence, a modified version of the JLR's D8 architecture. Powering the new model will be an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II turbo-diesel motor that has been branded as 'Kryotec'. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic unit.
The Tata Harrier was previewed by the H5X concept at the Auto Expo 2018. It becomes the first-ever production model to feature the company's IMPACT 2.0 design language. The front-end of the new model is characterised by sleek DRLs, multi-level light setup, and a chunky bumper that holds a faux skid plate. The highlights of the side profile include a rising beltline that gives the SUV a dynamic appearance, moderate usage of chrome, and stylish five-spoke alloy wheels. The rear-end features a sleek set of wraparound tail lamps, and a roof-mounted roof spoiler.

Currently, Tata Motors is in the process of upgrading its dealerships to provide a more upmarket experience to the customers of its new flagship. The Tata Harrier will rival the high-end variants of the Hyundai Creta, along with mid-level trims of the Jeep Compass and the Mahindra XUV500.
