The facelifted Ford Mustang was spotted in India for the first time in January, but it still hasn’t gone on sale. Instagram user carcrazy.india has posted new spy photos of the updated model captured in the country.
Introduced at NAIAS 2017, the mid-cycle update has brought minor design updates, some mechanical changes and new technologies to the pony car.
The new Ford Mustang is recognised with its reshaped headlamps that received a mixed reception. These LED units (previously HID) are set deeper for more aggression. Redesigned LED turn signals, new bumper, redesigned hood with new hood vents, redesigned radiator grille and wider air intake are among the other main changes at the front.
On the sides, there are more pronounced front fenders and new 18-inch machined-face wheels. Changes at the rear include redesigned tri-bar tail lamps, new quad exhaust tips, hexagonal license plate indentation and a new bumper. An active valve exhaust system gives the driver more control with the volume of the exhaust.
Moving to the interior, the most significant change is the inclusion of a 12-inch LCD all-digital instrument cluster. The centre console has added a new hand-stitched wrap with contrast stitching, and padded knee bolsters. Also new, are restyled seating surfaces featuring new patterns and colour choices and heated steering wheel.
Like the old model, the new model will likely come exclusively with the 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine. This engine develops 450 PS and 527 Nm in the new model’s Euro-spec version. Figures in India may vary to better suit lower grade fuel. It will come paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission (replacing 6-speed AT). The 6-speed manual transmission has improved for greater durability and quicker gear changes, but don’t expect that in our market.
Other mechanical changes include recalibrated shock absorbers that improve corner stability and stiffer rear suspension with a cross-axis joint that leads to increased lateral stiffness. Internationally, like some of the aforementioned features, there’s an option for a new MagneRide Damping System. This active damping system adjusts the suspension based on various inputs from sensors positioned around the vehicle.
