Tata Motors has not one but six all-new models arriving by early next decade, including two sedans. In its video released during the Auto Expo, Tata Motors may have teased two models with early sketches, one of which is a Maruti Ciaz rival and the other a cross-sedan breed.
The video shows outlines of some of the future models of Tata Motors. The model on the extreme left at the 0:09 mark is what we believe the Maruti Ciaz-rivaling sedan from the company. Codenamed Tata X452, this model will arrive as the three-box version of the Tata X451 hatchback, the concept version of which has arguably the sportiest design we have seen on a Tata Motors model to the date, from the desk of Pratap Bose who is leading this renaissance with his design team.
The second sedan is on the extreme right, and it is likely what ‘Stepway’ at Renault or ‘Cross Country’ at Volvo means. It’s likely an adventure variant of the Tata X452, with higher ground clearance and bigger wheels among other changes for an SUV-like stance. Currently, no automaker makes a cross-sedan in our market. The Volvo S60 Cross Country is a CBU import and falls in a completely different class and price segment. Tata Motors' president of passenger vehicles business unit Mayank Pareek has spoken about the company creating new segments with the AMP and the Omega architectures. He was however not making any direct references to a cross-sedan.

The Tata X452 sedan could arrive as early as 2020 to take on Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City and the Toyota Yaris, with its rugged variant following sometime later. Both sedans will ride on the Advanced Modular Platform and embody the IMPACT Design 2.0. They could share their engines and other components as well as the interior design with the Tata X451 hatchback.
