MG India's Baojun 530 SUV reveals new details in spy shots

TeamBHP member Kaushal Chavda snapped these images of the Baojun 530 near MG Motor India's plant in Halol, Gujarat. As reported earlier, the Baojun 530 will be used as the base for MG Motor India's first product due to arrive in showrooms in the second quarter of the calendar year 2019.

MG Motor India is reported to use FCA's 2.0-liter MultiJet diesel engine to power the Baojun 530 based SUV.

The front fascia of the SUV gets LED indicators with the headlight cluster positioned below in the bumper. The grille features horizontal slats and will bear the MG logo for the first time (presently, the SUV wears the Baojun emblem, and at the GIIAS 2018 SAIC-owned Wuling motor company showcased the SUV with their logo). Other details observed on the SUV include roof rails, diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED turn indicators on the ORVMs and LED taillight clusters.

According to reports, MG Motor will make some design changes to appeal to Indian tastes. The SUV measures 4,655 mm long, 1,835 mm wide, and 1,760 mm tall in the Chinese market. While it is available with a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated and 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engines in China, for the Indian market, reports state MG will use FCA's 2.0-liter MultiJet II diesel engine which is seen on the Jeep Compass and expected on the Tata Harrier.

Competitors for the Baojun 530 in India will include the Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Tata Harrier.

The Compass and Harrier will be direct rivals for the MG-badged Baojun 530, though higher variants of the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV500 will also find themselves in a price war. Media reports state that MG's first product for India is expected to cost just under INR 20 lakhs.
