Toyota launched the Yaris sedan last month to rival the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid, and the Volkswagen Vento. As per the latest sales statistics, the Toyota Yaris outsold the Honda City in May 2018.
Toyota Yaris sales for the month of May stood at 2,843 units. The Honda City managed 2,763 units over the same period. However, with 4,024 units sold, the Maruti Ciaz was the best seller in the segment. The Hyundai Verna turned out to be the second best selling car in the segment registering sales of 3,801 units. Out of all C-segment sedans, the Toyota Yaris is the only one that is not available with a diesel engine option. The company has no plans to launch one in India as of now. In all, more than 4,000 units of the Yaris have been dispatched to Toyota dealerships across India.
The Toyota Yaris is available in J, G, V, and VX grades. It comes with a 1.5 L petrol engine that develops 107 PS and 140 Nm. The engine can be had with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-step CVT. The Yaris petrol CVT is available in all four grades. Toyota claims a fuel efficiency of 17.1 km/l for the manual variant and 17.8 km/l for the automatic.
Toyota is marketing the Yaris as a feature-rich proposition. To that effect, the company offers the sedan with multiple segment first features including roof-mounted rear aircon vents, electrically adjustable seats, gesture control for the infotainment system, 7 airbags (standard), tyre pressure monitoring system, and more.
The Toyota Yaris range starts at INR 8.75 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the petrol manual J spec, while the petrol automatic J spec is priced at INR 9.95 lakhs (ex-showroom). The top-end VX grade is priced at INR 12.85 lakhs (ex-showroom) and INR 14.07 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the manual and automatic variant respectively.
