Tata Motors' ambitious TaMo Racemo project has been put up for sale by the company reports Money Control. The Racemo 2-seater was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March last year. Followed by its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in February along with an all-electric version.
As per the report, the company hopes to raise funds through the sale of the TaMo Racemo property. The company had already shelved the project indefinitely as early as July 2017. In August, a report stated that the company had intentions of reviving the project depending on time and resources available. The decision to axe the project was restated at the recent announcement of the company's FY18 financial results.
The small 2-seater sports car was meant to start a new chapter for Tata Motors not just in India, but globally. It employs a 1.2 L turbocharged Revotron engine putting out 190 hp of max power and 210 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed AMT handles transmission duties accompanied by a push button reverse gear and paddle shifters. 0-100 km/h takes less than 6 seconds as per the company's claims.
It was supposed to be commercially available in the Indian market as a kit car thanks to the MOFlex Multi-Material Sandwich (MMS) platform. The TaMo Racemo even made an appearance in Forza Horizon 3.
At the 2018 Auto Expo in February earlier this year, Tata Motors had on display three versions of the car - the regular Tamo Racemo, track focussed Tamo Racemo+ and the all-electric Tamo Racemo±. The latter is longer and wider than the Racemo by 150 mm and 14 mm respectively. It draws power from a 150 kW motor and has a range of 350 km. It can go on to hit a top speed of 200 km/h.
Tata Motors will focus on driving growth of its PV and CV businesses. In the PV segment, Tata will be launching the production version(s) of the Tata H5X concept followed by products based on the Tata 45X concept and the Tata E-Vision Concept. Recent launches in PV space include the Tata Nexon AMT and the Tata Tigor AMT variants and the Tata Zest Premio special edition.
