The current VW Passat (B8) debuted in mid-2014 and is over three years old now. Volkswagen has confirmed that the sedan will receive a facelift later this year. Expect the facelifted model to find its way to India after it goes on sale in the European market.

Volkswagen plans to launch 22 new vehicles this year and the facelifted VW Passat is one of them. The latest development is a confirmation straight from Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO, Volkswagen. “The redesigned Passat is on the starting blocks for Europe,” Dr. Diess said at Volkswagen’s Annual Media Conference this year. “As usual, the Passat will also be available as Variant (Estate) and hybrid models,” he added.

The facelifted VW Passat is expected to feature a refreshed front-end inspired by that of the VW Arteon. It could have a much larger radiator grille and air dam grille, reshaped headlamps with LED DRLs sitting flush with the radiator grille’s chrome slats, and a sleeker bumper. At the rear, changes may include tweaked tail lamps and a restyled bumper.

Volkswagen hasn't revealed the exact timeline of the launch of the new VW Passat. European reports suggest that this could happen in the second half of the year. The Indian launch of the facelifted VW Passat won’t take place before 2019. The current model was launched in October last year.
