According to a report from earlier this month, MSIL has commenced production of the 2018 Maruti Swift at Suzuki's manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The report adds that certain customers who had made bookings for the outgoing model have been requested to wait until February and accept delivery of the new Swift instead as dealerships have run out of stocks of the outgoing model.
The outgoing generation of the Swift arrived in India in August 2011. The hatchback remained the best selling car in its segment for the majority of its tenure and also spawned the very successful second generation Dzire compact sedan.
The new generation 2018 Maruti Swift is based on the Heartect platform. The engine options, however, will be the same as its predecessor. Diesel variants will be powered by a 1.3 L DDiS mill while the petrol variants will employ a 1.2 L K-Series unit. However, both petrol and diesel variants are expected to feature AMT gearboxes this time around.

The company is set to commence pre-launch media activities in January 2018. Expect the hatchback to go on sale before the end of last quarter of the current fiscal year.
