The 2018 smart fortwo, smart fortwo cabrio and smart forfour have been showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
A new perfect equipment line has been introduced, in the colours black and brown. Highlights include seats in leather look and fabric in black/brown with brown top stitching and air vents in grey. The new 15-inch alloy wheels painted in black and with a high-sheen finish make a dynamic statement. The Perfect equipment line replaces the proxy equipment line. There’s a new colour option available, called "autumn brown". Furthermore, an automatically dipping rear mirror is available as a new optional extra.

On the inside, the car gets a smart Audio-System, and the smart Media-System now includes voice-operated smartphone control with Siri and Google Now. The new voice-operated smartphone control can be activated by pressing and holding the push-to-talk button on the multifunction steering wheel. There’s an improved USB charging socket for the smart Media-System in the centre console, as well. This enables quicker charging of a smartphone. In addition, the Android Auto App can be used with compatible smartphones with a USB connection. Android Auto enables smartphone content to be mirrored on the screen and operated via the touchscreen.

In conjunction with the Cool & media package, the smart electric drive models additionally get the Charge Spot Finder. This new function helps searching for charging stations nearby or in a certain city, with the navigation system.
There are a choice of two petrol engines on offer. A 999cc inline three-cylinder engine generates 71 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 2,850 rpm. The smaller, but more powerful option features an 898cc inline three-cylinder mill with turbocharging. It gives out 90 PS of power at 5,500 rpm and 135 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. The two engines pair with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual clutch transmission.
A battery operated electric-drive smart fortwo cabrio variant is also available. Active Brake Assist is an option. It functions from a speed of 30 kmph and works with radar technology.
