The Fiat Abarth Punto's production was paused around mid-2016 just months after it went on sale in October 2015. Now, a report from Team-BHP says that FCA India has restarted the hot hatch's production.
Besides the low demand, the Fiat Abarth Punto and Fiat Abarth Avventura's production halted to make the Ranjangaon facility ready for the Jeep Compass' production. As a result, Abarth Punto customers were compelled to buy from the old stock of the car. Moreover, out of the two colours Pearl White and Hip Hop Black, the latter was not available. Now, FCA India is producing the Fiat Abarth Punto in both colours. For the past six months, the average sales of the car were in single digits.
The Fiat Abarth Punto measures 3,989 mm in length, 1,687 mm in width and 1,505 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,510 mm. It is powered by the 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine that develops 145 hp and 212 Nm of torque. The turbocharged four-cylinder mill is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. The Abarth Punto takes just 8.8 seconds to reach from 0-100 km/h. The fuel economy is rated at 16.3 km/l.
