Skoda has revealed the new Skoda Superb at an event in Prague this evening.
Having found more than 700,000 buyers, the Superb enters the third generation, and is shaped by the VisionC concept. The wheelbase has grown by 80 mm, while the front overhang is shortened by 61 mm, giving it a more dynamic appearance.
Up front, the car is defined by the distinctive grille, and sharply cut headlights. The side profile is characterized by narrow pillars, a chiseled waistline and a gently sloping roof, giving the appearance of a luxury coupe, says Skoda.
Moving to the rear, the car features taillamps with LED elements, with the C-shaped detailing.
Compared to the previous generation, interior space in the new model Superb is even better with 157 mm rear leg room and 69 mm better elbow room compared to the previous model. It offers a luggage compartment with a volume of 625 liters, which is 30 liters more than the second generation.
Coming to the features the car adopts the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Driving Mode Select, a new three-zone automatic climate control, electrically operated panoramic tilt and slide roof, heated seats, windshield and washer nozzles, rain sensor and light sensor.
The car also comes with a new electrically operated tailgate, Park Assist for automated parking, and rear view camera.
The third generation model gets four new infotainment system options. The top-end version comes with integrated high speed internet access based on LTE. The SmartLink interface includes MirrorLink ™, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SmartGate interface, developed by Skoda, allows you to send the selected vehicle data into an application on the driver's smartphone.
The audio system uses twelve speakers and has a 610 watt power output.
Talking about the mechanical kit, the new Superb consumes up to 30 percent lesser fuel than the outgoing car, thanks to the 75 kg weight loss and improved aerodynamics.
The 2016 Superb comes with five petrol engines and three diesel engine options - 1.4 TSI (125 PS/200 Nm), 1.4 TSI (150 PS/250 Nm), 1.8 TSI (180 PS/250 Nm), 2.0 TSI (220 PS/350 Nm) and 2.0 TSI (280 PS/350 Nm) for petrol and 1.6 TDI (120 PS/250 Nm), 2.0 TDI (150 PS/340 Nm) and 2.0 TDI (190 PS/400 Nm) for diesel.
All engines meet the emission standards of EU6 and are fitted with a start-stop system and brake energy recuperation.
With the exception of the basic petrol engine, all others are paired to a modern dual-clutch DSG gearbox. Also on offer is an all-wheel drive variant featuring the 5th generation Haldex system.
In the safety department, the new Superb is equipped as standard with electronic stability control (ESC), emergency brake function, electronic tire pressure monitor, seven airbags, five three-point seatbelts and optional rear side airbags.
Optionally, the new Superb can be further equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Assist system helps and Traffic Jam Assist system.
