The all-new Mazda2 hatchback (called as the Mazda Demio in Japan) has made its global debut in Japan. The global hatchback which has entered production at Mazda's Hofu Plant No. 1 in Yamaguchi, Japan, would go on sale starting from its home market in the autumn of 2014.
The sharp looking hatchback derives its design inspiration from the Mazda Hazumi concept that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Mazda calls the design philosophy as "KODO-Soul of Motion". The edgy design is in line with that of the new Mazda3 and Mazda6.

The Mazda2 is the fourth model to get the brand's SKYACTIV Technology which involves an array of efficiency and safety enhancing measures. The car also comes loaded with the Mazda Connect in-car connectivity along with the i-ACTIVSENSE, a collection of advanced safety features that help the driver in recognizing and responding to hazards.

Powertrain options include a new SKYACTIV-D 1.5-litre diesel engine which puts out 105 PS (103.52 bhp) and 250 Nm of torque. The petrol lineup has two SKYACTIV-G direct injection powerplants - 1.3 and 1.5-litre. Mazda hasn't revealed the full specifications of the gasoline engines but said they are mated to a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.
