The 2013 Skoda Octavia will be launched in India on October 3rd, and we have a confirmation from the company. While Skoda India along with Skoda CEO, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, unveiled the car on August 9th, the price announcement was saved for a future date. The only details that were given out were that Skoda India's Aurangabad plant has already commenced production of the executive sedan and that it would be named 'Octavia' and not 'Laura'.

Skoda Octavia unveiled in Mumbai
A soft launch was conducted on August 9th, where Skoda CEO, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland unveiled the car.

From a brochure scan, we learn that Skoda India would offer the Octavia with three engines. The base variant would be powered by a 1.4-liter TSI engine (also found on the VW Jetta TSI) outputting 140PS and 250Nm of torque. The ARAI approved fuel efficiency stands at 16.8km/l. A 6-speed manual is the only gearbox available for this engine.

The 1.4-liter TSI will be available only in Active and Ambition grades. For customers wanting a petrol powered Octavia in the top-end Elegance grade, the 1.8-liter TSI engine with a 7-speed DSG gearbox would be offered. This is the same engine found in the Laura TSI and Superb TSI, though surprisingly, the power output has been boosted to 180PS from the earlier 160PS.

And no, there are no immediate plans to introduce the RS variant.

Diesel variants of the new Octy will see the 2.0-liter CR engine being offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Variant-wise price information will be available on October 3rd so stay tuned to IndianAutosBlog.com for those updates.
