Shrawan Raja, I'm the Founder & CEO of IndianAutosBlog.com. I love teamwork and talking about cars.
Yesterday we brought you the first two images, leaked online, of the 2013 Range Rover.
Land Rover has uploaded the first images and details of the new Range Rover. The torch has been passed on to the fourth generation Range Rover which needs to carry out duties in a more challenging environment than any of its predecessors have been in, in the last 40 years.
The 2013 Range Rover has received positive reactions on the web, but many have criticized its close resemblance, especially the light fittings, to the Ford Explorer and the Ford Flex. Ford was the previous owner of the luxury marque and unsolicited comments even accused Ford of duping Land Rover by copying these designs on its cars before the Range Rover could hit the market.
The 2013 Range Rover is the first model to have undergone its entire development post Tata Motors’ acquisition of Land Rover. The company has the put the model through a diet, and as a result, it has shed 317 kg. This was possible by making an all-aluminum unibody structure, the first in the world for any SUV.
This incredible weight loss was not aided by downsizing, and testimony to this claim is the rear legroom that has been increased by 4.7 inches. Off-roading is made possible by the Land Rover “Terrain Response 2 Auto” system fitted to the car. Other features include a premium MeridianTM sound system and a split tailgate.
For the North American market, V8 engines paired to a new eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, will be on offer. Rumor has it that a plug-in hybrid option will join the ranks in the next few years.
The new Range Rover will be manufactured at Land Rover’s Solihull plant in the United Kingdom. The new Range Rover is likely to premiere at the 2012 Paris Auto Show which begins late next month and is expected to land in India next year.
The 2013 Range Rover was tested in over 20 countries for over a million miles. It will be offered in 160 markets starting this year and we expect it to arrive in India in 2013.
