Mazda CX5 is a popular compact crossover SUV from Mazda. The compact SUV made its first appearance under the Shinari concept form at the 2011 Gevena Motor Show. The production-ready version was finally unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show and went on sale the following year. Mazda CX-5 is underpinned by the same platform used on the Mazda CX3 and CX5. It was the first model to sport the Kodo design language and SkyActiv technology.
At launch, the Mazda CX was available with two choices of engines including a SkyActiv-D 2.2L (147 PS) and a SkyActiv-G 2.0L engine (162 BHP). These were mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The first-gen CX5 won the Car of the Year Japan Award, at the year of its launch.
The first generation of the Mazda CX5 was on sale until 2016 before being replaced by the second generation. The second-gen CX5 was introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2016. The second-gen model is available with three engine options, 2.0-litre petrol, 2.5-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel unit. Later on, Mazda has added a new 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel to the line-up.
Mazda is not operating in the Indian market. It also means that the Mazda CX5 is not available in India as well. The compact SUV is on sale in markets including United States, Japan, Europe, Australia, Canada, China and other markets in South East Asia.
