Gets a new engine and new CVT gearbox.
Seen here are live images of the 2016 Toyota Vios TRD Sportivo which was announced for the Malaysian market this week. The updated Vios range, available in 1.5 J (MT), 1.5 J (AT), 1.5 E (AT), 1.5 G (AT), 1.5 GX (AT) and 1.5 TRD Sportivo grades, is priced from 76,500 RM to 96,400 RM (INR 12.28 lakhs to INR 15.48 lakhs). Seen here is the top-end variant.
Though cosmetic updates extend merely to the design of the bumpers, side skirts, new LED daytime running lights and a rear spoiler, the 2016 Vios gets extensive mechanical changes. The sedan now uses a new 2NR-FE 1.5-liter Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine, which features variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves. However, power and torque outputs are lower compared to the previous Vios's 1NZ-FE VVT-i engine, at 107 PS at 6,000 rpm (-2 PS) and 140 Nm (-1 Nm) at 4,200 rpm.
The 2016 Toyota Vios will however be more fuel efficient thanks to the replacement of the 4-speed torque converter AT with a CVT with 7-stepped ratios. The manual variants continue with the 5-speed unit. Also, all variants of the 2016 Vios now feature Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control as standard.

According to a recent report, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is studying the feasibility of a Toyota Vios Hybrid variant for the Indian market. A hybrid variant on the Vios is not available anywhere in the world, and thus, one can only speculate about its powertrain.
