The official launch of the Proton Preve Hatchback is closer than ever before. PaulTan.org reader Sheikh Zaid has taken pictures of a metallic blue variant on Malaysian roads during the product's ad filming. The Preve hatch is based on the carmaker's P2 platform that lays emphasis on the general requirements of the international markets, apart from Malaysia's.
The Preve hatch would be followed by a compact car that would wade international waters. However the Preve hatch is equally important as it is a cornerstone in Proton's aim of becoming the Malaysian auto market leader in two years.
The concrete plan as to how Proton intends to be a global car company (an idea that was planted with the unveiling of the Proton EMAS at Geneva 2010) can be learned only upon the car's unveiling.
Coming back to the Preve, Proton has been testing the five-door C-Segment hatch with heavy camouflage over the last year in Malaysia. The variant spied has very limited camouflage that helps understand the car's styling in advance.
The Preve's competitors are the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback, Honda Civic hatch and the Ford Focus. A 1.6-litre in-line four-cylinder gasoline unit that produces 107hp @ 5750rpm and 150Nm of torque @4000rpm sits under the bonnet. It is matched to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed Continuously Variable Transmission CVT.
These spyshots confirm that the unveiling can be held anytime now.
