Tata Motors will launch the Nexon in Nepal soon to help increase its market share in the country which currently stands at around 10%. The Tata Nexon is a sub 4 m compact SUV that was launched in India in September this year to take on the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.
Speaking to My Republica, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Motors, Guenter Butschek said
We are launching our new car 'Nexon' in Nepal very soon. We see a lot of possibilities in passenger vehicles market in Nepal.
However, an exact timeline for the launch is yet to be specified. Tata and its official distributor in Nepal, Sipradi Trading, launched the Tata Hexa on November 23. Butschek also inaugurated a three-day Global Service Camp of Tata Motors in Kathmandu.
The Tata Nexon is sold in India with a 1.2 L turbocharged Revotron petrol engine producing 110 PS and a 1.5 L Revotorq diesel engine also producing 110 PS. The sole transmission option on offer currently is a 6-speed manual. Soon, though, 6-speed AMT equipped petrol and diesel variants will also go on sale.
Prices of the compact SUV start at INR 5.85 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base petrol XE trim. The top-end XZ+ diesel variant with the two-tone colour scheme is priced at INR 9.45 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
Besides confirming the launch of the Tata Nexon in Nepal, Butschek also spoke about setting up an assembly plant for Tata products in Nepal. While he did not rule out the possibility, he did say that the company needs higher volumes to justify the move.
