The first generation Bajaj Dominar 400 makes a run on the dyno in stock form before the aftermarket unit is installed on the motorcycle to understand the difference in performance. Moreover, the aftermarket system is nearly six kilograms lighter than the stock exhaust that helps Dominar 400 gain a better power-to-weight ratio.

Visually, the new exhaust system gets a chrome finish, which replaces the stock, black unit. In terms of performance, the new exhaust system is said to add 1.74 PS of power over the standard motorcycle. The increase may not sound like much, but with the lower weight, it does improve the power-to-weight ratio. The system, however, is not available in the Indian market and even if you do manage to import one, it would not be legal to install one on your motorcycle. The aftermarket exhaust is louder than the stock system.

The motorcycle, in stock form, draws 5 PS of power and 35 Nm of peak torque from its 373 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC engine. The new 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 (UG) on the other hand, makes 40 PS of maximum power at 8,650 rpm from its 373.2 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor. The power-to-weight ratio on the 2019 model stands at 217 PS/ton as against 192 PS/ton on the discontinued version. The updated 2019 model also benefits from better brakes, upside-down forks and revised instrument console.

The aftermarket exhaust is 6 kilograms light than the stock unit, thus helping the Bajaj Dominar 400 (previous generation) to achieve better power to weight ratio.

Bajaj is yet to announce the prices for the 2019 model. We expect to see the 2019 Dominar 400 to arrive close to the INR 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. Despite the (expected) increase in the price, the Bajaj Dominar 400 continues to be the most value for money product in its segment. Its rivals include the TVS Apache RR310, its Austrian sibling – the KTM 390 Duke, Honda CB300R and the BMW G 310 R.
