The last million vehicles were manufactured in the last 2 years.
Mahindra and Mahindra rolled out its 5 millionth vehicle today from its plant in Kandivali, Mumbai. The milestone car was a Mahindra Thar. Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive director of Mahindra and Mahindra, rolled out the car.
The company rolled out its 4 millionth vehicle only in 2012, and has produced the last million vehicles within a quick span of 2 years. The Indian manufacturer has been in the automotive business for 7 decades now. Mahindra operates plants in Chakan, Nasik, Haridwar, Zaheerabad, Kandivali and an engine plant in Igatpuri.
This year, Mahindra will introduce two new platforms in the passenger vehicle sector, and one in the LCV space. The latter, which is codenamed P601, has been caught testing multiple times and is likely to rival the hugely-popular Tata Ace.
Elsewhere in the segment, the company is planning a refresh for its flagship offering, the XUV500. An automatic transmission and hybrid option are also under development for the XUV500, company officials told Indian Autos Blog.
The recently launched Scorpio would also get an automatic variant, as it was spotted testing recently.
