The Scorpio will not get an automated manual transmission.
The new Mahindra Scorpio AT was snapped testing in Gurgaon once again by a reader of MotorBash. Mahindra launched the new generation Scorpio in the last week of September, yet an automatic variant was not introduced.
When asked about the arrival of the Scorpio AT, Mahindra's Chief Executive of the Automotive Division, Mr. Pravin Shah, said that the company would launch such a model provided enough demand existed. However, Mahindra will not introduce the automated manual transmission (AMT) on the Scorpio, instead it will launch it on the Quanto.
The Scorpio AT could get new 6-speed automatic transmission developed by Ssangyong for their X100 compact SUV. Earlier this year, Ssangyong's president, Mr. Y I Lee, confirmed that Mahindra was indeed considering this gearbox for the more expensive XUV500, but given how the XUV and Scorpio use the same engine, the Ssangyong-developed transmission could be an ideal fit for both cars.
