To be launched in 2015.
At its R&D center in Chennai, Mahindra is currently working on two sub-4 meter SUVs, both of which are expected to be launched in 2015. The first is a utilitarian vehicle codenamed U301, while the other is a smaller vehicle, internally known as S101. The latter has been caught testing, covered under camouflage, by Exhaustvid.
Likely to adopt a more crossover-like shape, the Mahindra S101 will be positioned to compete against midsize hatchbacks like the Maruti Swift and Hyundai Elite i20. It will be based on a monocoque structure (second utility vehicle after the XUV500) and will be the smallest product in Mahindra's line-up.
Powering this sub-4 meter vehicle will be newly developed three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines displacing under 1.2-liter, while an automated manual transmission, which debuts on the Quanto early next year, could also be offered. On the inside, with the gear lever mounted on the centre console, the vehicle gets a joined bench-type seat at the front, clearer in a previous spyshot.
