Toyota Kirloskar Motor had its best July sales this year, and the Toyota Fortuner had its best monthly sales with record-breaking 3,400+ deliveries.
TKM sold 19,473 units last month. 17,750 units were sold in the country, while 1,723 units were of the Etios exports.
The Toyota Fortuner was launched in India back in August 2009, for a price of INR 18.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). That was Toyota trying to make its space in the segment as the new entrant. Now, the rugged three-row SUV starts at INR 24,40,900 (ex-showroom Delhi). The second-gen model was launched in India in November 2016 and has received a great response from the market, with almost 18,000 units sold.
With the GST implementation, prices of the Fortuner have reduced by up to INR 2.68 lakh (ex-showroom). There are six configurations available, with prices going up to INR 29,17,700 (ex-showroom Delhi). Customers withholding their purchase in June and customers lured by the increased affordability have contributed to the sudden sales spike. In May 2017, the Toyota Fortuner sales were at 1,961 units. In June 2017, the month before GST rollout, sales had plummeted to an all-time low (for the second-gen model) of 356 units.
