Toyota has launched India-made Toyota Etios Sprint in South Africa, expanding the car's range to three models. The Sprint grade gets unique styling to distinguish itself from the rest of the range.
Like the Toyota Etios Xi, the Toyota Etios Sprint is available in hatchback and sedan versions. Previewed at the Festival of Motoring held in October last year, the Etios Sprint replaces the previous mid-grade Etios Xs and brings several distinctive features to the car. The main change on the outside is the new bumper design, which incorporates a large lower air dam that stretches the entire front width and features integrated fog lamps with a sculpted bezel. The radiator grille too is unique.
Toyota has made some tweaks at the rear too. The rear bumper has an elegant lower crease line which flows from the outer corners and blends into the license plate recess. The tweaked bumper elongates the Etios hatchback by 109 mm and Etios sedan by 104 mm. Carbon-fibre-look Sprint badge and new 15-inch twin spoke alloy wheels round-up the exterior highlights.
Along with the introduction of the Sprint grade, Toyota has given two updates to the other existing Etios grades. The base Xi grade now features a colour-coded grille with chrome accents. The interior across the range has received an upgrade for a greater feeling of solidity.

The Toyota Etios is powered by the 2NR-FE 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 66 kW (88.47 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 132 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission sends power to the front wheels. The fuel economy figure is marked at 16.95 km/l (hatchback)/16.67 km/l (sedan). The Etios Sprint hatchback is priced at R 1,72,600 (INR 8,02,813.37), while the Etios Sprint sedan costs R 1,80,500 (INR 8,39,558.59).
