First Datsun based on CMF-A platform.
Datsun has teased the production Datsun redi-GO and announced that the car will be launched on April 14 in New Delhi.
The Datsun redi-GO was unveiled as a concept at Auto Expo 2014 and will be the company's first car to be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance's CMF-A platform which underpins the Renault Kwid.
Datsun being the economy brand will reportedly price the Datsun redi-GO below the Renault Kwid. An even lower entry-price means that the interior could be basic without the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. The crossover appeal however will form a selling point for the redi-GO.
The Datsun redi-GO is expected to be the mechanical cousin of the Renault Kwid, and with that said, the same 0.8-litre SCe three-cylinder petrol engine producing 54 PS and 74 Nm of torque and 5-speed manual transmission are likely to be default on the Datsun redi-GO. This engine provides a fuel mileage of 25.17 km/l (ARAI-certified) in the Renault Kwid.
Unlike the Renault Kwid, the Datsun redi-GO may not get a 1.0-litre petrol engine model. However, a recent report said that Nissan is working on a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine for its entry-level cars and this unit may eventually be placed on the Datsun redi-GO.
