The models to initially go on sale are the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and SRT Cherokee. Given the soaring demand for compact SUVs priced between 10 – 20 Lakhs, FCA could widen the appeal with the Renegade, Jeep’s entry level premium SUV, which rivals top-end grades of the compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
According to import documents, two models of the Renegade were imported to India, which are powered by the 2.0-liter MultiJet II diesel engine. The only difference is that one has a 6-speed manual while the other is equipped with a 9-speed automatic.
Newer reports state that Jeep will not be launching the Renegade, but brought the two units to India to tune the FCA Small Wide platform, which will underpin the Jeep 551 SUV. The new SUV will be manufactured in India from 2017 at the Ranjangaon plant at good localization levels, and exported to other RHD markets.
