World premiere on February 2, 2016.
The VW Ameo compact sedan was videotaped while testing on what looks like the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The Ameo, derived from the Latin word 'Amo' (which translates to 'I Love'), will have its world premiere on February 2, 2016, a day before the Auto Expo 2016.

The VW Ameo will be positioned between the VW Polo hatchback and VW Vento sedan, and will rival segment bigwigs like the Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Zest and Ford Figo Aspire. It will be manufactured at VW India's Chakan plant in Maharashtra.
The Ameo is expected to borrow its engines from the VW Polo on which it is based. A 1.5-liter TDI four-cylinder diesel engine (which makes 90 PS and 230 Nm on the Polo) and a 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPi petrol engine (developing 75 PS and 110 Nm on the hatchback) will power the compact sedan. An additional engine option may include the 1.2-liter four-cylinder TSI mated to a 7-speed DSG, developing 105 PS and 175 Nm of torque on the Polo GT TSI and Vento TSI.

The VW Ameo will have a lot of parts sharing with the VW Polo, including the dashboard, the three-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, the Bluetooth-enabled music system, buttons for the automatic climate control and so on. Like the Polo and Vento models, dual front airbags would be standardized on the Ameo.
