Designed specifically for the Indian market.
VW India today announced that its made-for-India compact sedan will be called the 'VW Ameo'. The world premiere of the VW Ameo will be on February 3, 2016, at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida. The car will be manufactured in Chakan, Pune, alongside the Polo and Vento, and launched in the coming months.
Derived from the Latin word ‘Amo’, meaning ‘I love’, the company says that the "Volkswagen Ameo is a truly special offering that combines the brand values of best-in-class safety features, build quality and a great driving experience. The design language is underlined by general bursts of emotion, conceptualized to move the body, mind and soul."
Though there is no official comment, spyshots show that the Ameo is a smaller saloon on the VW Polo's platform. It is expected to be powered by petrol and diesel engines that are available on the hatchback. These include the 1.2-liter MPi three-cylinder petrol capable of 75 PS and 110 Nm of torque and the 1.5-liter TDi four-cylinder diesel developing 90 PS and 230 Nm of torque on the Polo. Both these are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Additionally, the Ameo could get the 1.2-liter four-cylinder TSI petrol engine which is offered exclusively with a 7-speed DSG transmission.
The interior design and feature list of the Ameo will be carried over from the Polo/Vento models. A three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a 2-DIN Bluetooth-enabled music system, automatic climate control, standard dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and alloy wheels are features that will be seen.
