South-American spec Renault Kwid spied for the first time – Brazil
Sagar Parikh, I'm the international news editor at IndianAutosBlog.com. I love everything that has a steering wheel!
Will feature a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine.
Just over a month after its launch in India, the Renault Kwid’s South American-spec version leaked in patent images revealing that the car was preparing to invade Latin American markets. Two months later, the car has been spied testing in Brazil for the first time, courtesy of CarPlace reader Wellington Morais. The CMF-A platform-based car will be launched in Brazil in September.
The South American-spec Renault Kwid looks the same as the Indian-spec Renault Kwid, except for the differently styled door mouldings. The Brazilian publication says that their version has larger mirrors which are similar to the Renault Sandero‘s. The leaked patent images suggested that the South American-spec Kwid will be differentiated by body-coloured rear bumper and door handles and chrome fog lamp enclosures. The Latin markets markets will get the Renault Kwid from the Brazilian factory which may source some components from India before local vendors can supply.
In Brazil, ABS should be offered as standard to meet the minimum safety specifications. The car will be launched with a 77 hp 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine capable of running on petrol and ethanol. 5-speed manual transmission will be standard and an automated manual transmission may be offered on higher grades.
In India, the Kwid is offered exclusively with a 0.8-litre SCe three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 54 PS (55 hp) and 72 Nm of torque, with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Kwid with a 1.0L engine and AMT gearbox will be offered in India this year, and reportedly debuts at Auto Expo 2016 next month.
