Considers it an "interesting concept."

At the launch of the India-spec Ford Endeavour in Mumbai this week, Ford India President and MD, Nigel Harris, told IndianAutosBlog that the concept of a spruced up Ford Figo 'Cross' is interesting.

The Figo is one of the most powerful hatchbacks in India, and is made in three configs - hatchback, sub-4m sedan and export-only sedan.

He said:

It depends on how well we execute it. We are looking at it. Indian consumers like the mainstream (products), so they like an Aspire or Figo, but they also like the new (segments). Yeah, the cross (Figo crossover) is an interesting concept.

Currently the pseudo crossover segment has the Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross, VW Cross Polo, Hyundai i20 Active, and the Maruti S-Cross. The demand for a hatchback-based crossover could be attributed to its looks, ruggedness, longer features list and higher ground clearance.

The Figo cross would join the emerging breed of rugged-hatchbacks which ranges from the pint-sized Renault Kwid to the Volvo V40 Cross Country.

At the moment, Ford India's product lines has the Figo, Figo Aspire, Fiesta, EcoSport and Ford Endeavour. Mr Harris said that the company will introduce more international nameplates in India soon that opens the brand to a wider audience.
