Engines to be shared with the Verna.
Indian Autos Blog reader, Mr. Debtanu Mukherjee, snapped these images of the top-end Hyundai ix25 on the Greater Noida expressway recently. The compact SUV is identified as a range-topping model owing to its projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, diamond-cut alloy wheels and reverse parking sensors.
Hyundai India's first compact SUV is set to go on sale in the July-August period with petrol and diesel engines reported to be borrowed from the Verna. These 1.6-liter four-cylinder units will be joined by a 1.4-liter diesel engine (seen on the Hyundai i20 Active) which will act as an entry-level offering.
The 4.27 meter long ix25 will rival the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport chiefly with its attractive Storm Edge-inspired design and high build quality, which has become a norm on Hyundai's products these days.
For the Indian market, reports suggest that the ix25 will get a different name and mild styling updates to appeal to the local tastes. Codenamed Hyundai 'GS', it will see localization of nearly 90 percent owing to an investment of INR 1,000 Cr by Hyundai Motor India Limited.
