Expected to launch in August this year.
According to a report on Autocar India, the Hyundai ix25 compact SUV for the Indian market could get a different name. The project is codenamed 'GS', and a launch is expected to take place in the August-September period.
Base variants of the ix25 for the Indian market would be powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, the same unit which does duty on the Hyundai Elite i20, i20 Active and the Verna. As the ix25's length will put it out of contention for the small car excise duty benefits, Hyundai is keen on having a base variant to target an aggressive starting price.
An engineer testing the ix25 with this engine told the publication that it works quite well.
Other variants of the ix25 would be powered by 1.6-liter petrol and diesel engines (borrowed from the Verna), though it remains to be seen if Hyundai offers its 4WD technology, at least on the top-end variant.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has reportedly invested over INR 1,000 Cr into the project, and aims to achieve a high localization content of 90 percent. The ix25 (GS) will be HMIL's biggest launch this year.
Rivals: Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio, Maruti SX4 S-Cross, Renault Duster
Expected price: INR 8-10 lakhs, ex-showroom
