Hyundai looking to sell 4,000 units/month in India.
The Hyundai ix25 compact SUV was spotted on test in India yet again, ahead of a launch reported to take place in the festive season period (September-November period). Currently on sale in China, the ix25 will be launched in India to rival the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Maruti SX4 S-Cross.
For the Indian market, Hyundai could choose to use a different name than 'ix25', reports Autocar India. The compact SUV is presently codenamed 'GS', and is reported to come with localization of 90 percent. The company is said to have invested INR 1,000 crore towards the project.
The ix25 would share its engine options with the Verna. The top-end variants will see 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, the latter getting a 6-speed manual transmission.
In the Chinese market, the ix25 measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, very similar to the Duster. And where the Duster gets the option of a 4WD variant, it remains to be seen if Hyundai launches an AWD variant on the ix25.
