To be launched early year.
MSIL (Maruti Suzuki India Limited) has plans of launching the S-Cross in India this year, alongside seven other new products. It's not the first appearance the Maruti SX4 S-Cross is making, but the vehicle has been caught testing again, this time by Motoroids.
As earlier spy shots have revealed, the vehicle will receive some India-specific features before going on sale early this year. These will include the presence of only V and Z trims, like the Ciaz. The top-spec Z (ZXI for petrol and ZDI for diesel) will get 14-spoke alloys, OVRM-mounted blinkers, projector headlamps with LED running lights, and chrome treatment above the taillamp and a dual-slat grille up front (standard on all variants).
While finer details regarding the India-specific model are yet to be known, the SX4 S-Cross (sold internationally) measures 4.3 m in length, 1.76 m in width, and 1.57 m in height. The car made its Indian premiere at the 2014 Auto Expo.
Engine options for the crossover will include both petrol and diesel units, but it remains to be seen if Maruti fits the larger 1.6-litre diesel engine (as available internationally). The petrol unit is expected to be the 1.4-litre K14B engine that powers the Ertiga and the Ciaz.
It was earlier reported that a 1.5-litre version of the Fiat MJD (Multijet diesel) was being considered by considered by Maruti as a replacement to the current 1.3-litre DDiS unit, which is based on Fiat's MJD, too. What's also yet unknown is whether the top-end S-Cross will be offered with the Allgrip AWD (all-wheel drive) system or not.
