The 2016 Audi Q7 might still be a few months away from its global market launch, but clocking test miles in India is now a daily regime for the SUV flagship.

The SUV has been caught again, this time by a Motorbeam reader in Mumbai. Unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the 2016 Audi Q7 is expected to go on sale in India in late 2015.

The 2016 Audi Q7 is based on VW's MLB architecture, and is said to be lighter by up to 325 kg.

The vehicle measures 5.05 metres in length, 1.97 meters in width, and 1.74 meters in height. It's got a 2.99 meter long wheelbase, and in comparison to the model it replaces, it's up to 325 kilos lighter thanks to the new MLB platform and use of high strength steel and aluminium in the new Q7's build.

Engine options for the vehicle will include 3-litre petrol and diesel units. The former is a turbocharged V6 petrol that produces 333 hp and 440 Nm of torque, while the latter makes 272 hp and 600 Nm of torque. Lower weight enables better efficiency, hence the diesel is claimed to be 26 percent more efficient while the petrol is better by 23 per cent.

Power will be sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a quattro all-wheel drive system. A new, smaller 2-litre TFSI (petrol) engine that makes 249 hp and 370 Nm of torque, is also added to the global line up. A hybrid version will follow soon, too.
