Facebook user Amit Kumar Pandey has uploaded images of the Tata Nexon on display at a dealership. This is the first instance of the compact SUV being spotted on the showroom floor. The Tata Nexon launch will take place sometime this month.
The car was spotted in the base XE trim sporting a shade slightly darker than the Tiago's Stryker Blue colour. Compared the top-spec XZ+ trim we drove in July, the XE grade loses out on projector headlamps, LED DRLs and front fog lamps. Also, instead of 16-inch alloys, it wears steel rims with wheel covers. While the ceramic white highlights have been retained, it misses out on the dual tone paint scheme of higher end XZ+ grade. It makes do with black ORVM casings and black door handles and misses out on roof rails as well.
A closer inspection reveals fixed headrests for the rear bench and a lack of the 6.5-inch dashtop touchscreen. We will have to wait for the official release from Tata Motors to ascertain the full extent of differences between the different variants of the Nexon.
There is no badging anywhere to indicate what's under the hood of this particular example of the Nexon. Tata is offering the compact SUV with a choice of 1.2 L Revotron petrol and 1.5 L Revotorq diesel engines with a 6-speed manual transmission. The turbocharged petrol engine produces 110 PS and 170 Nm, while the oil burner makes 110 PS and 260 Nm. Tata will add optional AMT gearboxes to the lineup before the end of this fiscal year.
We expect the Tata Nexon price for the base petrol XE trim to hover around the INR 6.50 lakh mark. The range topping XZ+ diesel could easily cross INR 10 lakhs (ex-showroom). Bookings are currently open for a token amount of INR 11,000.
