According to a report by GaadiWaadi, the 2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift will not get petrol or an automatic transmission option.
The report claims that MSIL will equip the S-Cross with a mild hybrid technology. Also, as reported earlier, it will retain on the 1.3 L DDiS200 diesel engine. The 2017 Maruti S-Cross will not get the current car's 1.6 L DDiS320 diesel.
Thanks to the introduction of the mild hybrid system, the 2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift mileage will be 25.1 km/l as per the ARAI certificate. The sole gearbox on offer will be a 5-speed manual paired with the 1.3 L diesel. In its current state, the 1,248 cc diesel churns out 89 bhp of max power and 200 Nm of peak torque.
Much has been speculated about the introduction of petrol variants of the S-Cross. While one media report claimed it will receive Suzuki's M15A 1.5 L petrol, another suggested MSIL was evaluating the 1.0 L Boosterjet or the Ciaz's 1.4 K14 petrol engine. According to GaadiWaadi's report, Maruti does not plan on offering the crossover with a petrol engine, at least at the time of launch.
MSIL's decision to equip the S-Cross with SHVS seems a bit puzzling considering the government has withdrawn all benefits previously offered to hybrids and mild hybrid. Under the current GST structure, hybrids attract a total taxation of 43%. In fact, as per the latest amendment, the tax incidence on mid size cars, SUVs, and hybrids is set to go up by 10%.
Cosmetic changes to the S-Cross are restricted mainly to the nose. It has a more upright profile along with a new drawn out grille that features vertical slats. The new bumper features a prominent trapezoidal air inlet with black cladding surrounding it and the fog lamps.
The launch of the Maruti S-Cross facelift will take place sometime this month. As compared to the current model, prices will go up, but majorly because of the revision in the GST structure.
