Could appeal to a wider audience.

Business Standard Motoring reports that Maruti will soon offer a petrol version of the Maruti S-Cross, which is likely to appeal to a wider audience. At the moment, the S-Cross is available with two diesel options: 1.3 and 1.6 DDiS engines.

The report states that Maruti could either fit the 1.4 N/A K14 engine from the Maruti Ciaz or the new 1.0-liter Boosterjet engine that will debut in the upcoming Maruti Baleno RS. In the Ciaz, the former engine produces 91 hp and 130 Nm, while the latter motor outputs 111 PS and 160 Nm of torque in the export-spec Maruti Baleno.

Given the relatively small gap between the prices of petrol and diesel fuels, as well as the lower ex-showroom price of a petrol-powered car, Maruti could introduce a petrol option for customers looking for a spacious pseudo-crossover for short city drives.

The Maruti S-Cross was received with a lukewarm reception when it went on sale in 2015. Since then Maruti slashed the price of all S-Cross variants in India, and refunded the money discounted from the launch price to early S-Cross owners as a sign of trust and honesty.
