While Audi is considering an F-segment full-size SUV, Volkswagen is planning an SUV in the opposite end of the spectrum. According to AutoBild, the company is working on a new A-segment SUV named the VW T-Track.
An A-segment Volkswagen SUV story would instantly remind one of the VW Taigun concept from the 2012 Sao Paulo International Motor Show. The 3.86 metre-long near-production concept SUV's development advanced further and was introduced in an updated concept version at Auto Expo 2014. However, it never entered production because it was "too small". In the new, SUV-offensive strategy, though, the Volkswagen Group is apparently tapping every segment with potential, and Volkswagen is the best brand for the A-segment globally.
The VW up!, Volkswagen's Euro-focused urban car, arrived in 2011. It's unknown when the second-gen model will arrive, but what we do know now, is that an SUV equivalent of it called VW T-Track is on the cards. The VW T-Track's arrival could lead to the discontinuation of the VW cross up! Compared to the cross up!, the T-Track will have bigger wheels, higher ground clearance and a more distinctive design as Volkswagen plans to sell it as a separate model, not a derivative of the up!. Volkswagen will sell the T-Track only with four doors and three-cylinder engines. An all-wheel drive option is not planned.

The VW up! starts at €9,975, while the cross up! is priced from €14,250. The VW T-Track is expected to start at €15,000. Later during its lifecycle, the T-Track could get a pure-electric variant.
