A report on CarAndBike states that Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) will launch the V-Strom 1000 in September this year. The 2018 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 features minor styling updates over its predecessor and is powered by the same engine. The Suzuki V-Strom was introduced in India back in February 2014 following its showcase at the Auto Expo 2014.
The adventure tourer from Suzuki is powered by a 1,037 cc liquid cooled 90-degree v-twin engine with a power and torque output of around 98 bhp and 103 Nm respectively. It comes mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. Front suspension gets inverted telescopic while the rear suspension is link type. The 2018 model does not get ride-by-wire technology but the bike is BS4 and Euro 4 compliant. Front tyre is a 19-inch specification while rear tyre is a 17-inch Bridgestone Battlewing dual-sport.
The new V-Strom 1000 gets significant changes in terms of the onboard electronics. It gets a five-axis IMU called Motion Track Braking System. This Bosch sourced unit calculates lean angles and works with the ABS to make braking safer and more effective. There is also a new combined braking system on offer, which senses hard lever and brake pedal use and balances braking on both ends. It features cornering ABS as well as Suzuki’s easy-start system and the low-rpm assist function.
In terms of styling, there are no radical changes. The bike gets a new fairing and new colours along with a windscreen adjustable at three angles.
Internationally, the V-Strom 1000 is available in two variants – V-Strom 1000 and V-Strom 1000 XT. The Indian market is likely getting the latter which comes with wire-spoke wheels, tubeless tyres, and tapered handlebars. Currently, the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 retails for INR 13.45 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
