BMW's new coupe-styled executive saloon to reach India in February 2018.
BMW introduced the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo yesterday, a longer, coupe-styled version of the sixth-gen BMW 5 Series that arrived last year. According to a report from Autocar India, BMW will launch the BMW 6 Series GT in India at the Auto Expo 2018 in February.
The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo is the successor to the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. The BMW 5 Series GT was sold in India as the BMW Gran Turismo, although sales were limited, and the facelifted model was never launched.
BMW is bringing the all-new 5 Series to India on June 29. It looks like instead of bringing the BMW 5 Series Li (long-wheelbase version) introduced for China in April to compete with the Mercedes E-Class LWB, BMW will offer the 6 Series Gran Turismo for those seeking more space and comfort.
Globally the BMW 6 Series GT will sell in 2.0-litre petrol (RWD), 3.0-litre petrol (RWD/AWD) and 3.0-litre diesel (RWD/AWD) models, all with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. Don't expect the 2.0-litre petrol model to sell here, as BMW will likely want to position the 6 Series GT as a high-end model, unlike the 5 Series, from which the company will expect relatively more volume sales. The report suggests that BMW India will import the 6 Series GT in CKD kits and assemble them at its Chennai plant for a competitive pricing.
