Confirmed to launch this year.
The Mahindra XUV500 was given a facelift in 2015, and this year, it gets a second intervention to prepare for new rivals like the Jeep Compass at the high end and the Renault Captur at the low end. A report from CarDekho has provided some insight into the power and torque upgrades of the facelift.
The current model's 2.2-litre mHawk140 turbocharged diesel engine develops 140 hp at 3,750 rpm and 330 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to 2,800 rpm. The engine in the 2018 model is said to produce 170 PS (167.61 hp) and 350-360 Nm of torque. This converts to an improvement of about 28 hp and 20-30 Nm. An earlier report claimed that the new XUV500 makes 170 hp, marking the introduction of the mHawk170 engine with a 30 hp gain.
The current 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic should continue, while introduction of Mild-hybrid tech is doubtful as the government offers no subsidies and has withdrawn special support for mild-hybrids with GST, which now attract the highest rate of 43% total levies.
The Mahindra XUV500 is offered with the 1.99-litre mHawk140 diesel engine as well, which is tuned to deliver 103 kW (140 hp) at 3,750 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to 2,800 rpm. The report does not mention, but we aren't sure if the outputs of this engine would be dialed up. 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic should continue as the transmission choices for this engine as well.
